What is NASSS?

NASSS is a national organization that brings together high school and middle school students passionate about the social sciences. We provide the first platform for students to explore disciplines including sociology, psychology, political science, economics, history, geography, anthropology, and philosophy through competitive academic events, community outreach, and leadership development.

What Does NASSS Offer?

How it Works:

NASSS operates through local middle and high school chapters, each led by student officers and supervised by faculty advisors. Every chapter:

  • Engages in community outreach and service projects

  • Participates in regular educational activities beyond competition preparation

  • Host events like bake sales, awareness campaigns, debates, and field trips

  • Elects officers annually and report positions to the NASSS website

Chapter officers include:

  • (May be Co-filled) President: Overall chapter leadership and coordination

  • Vice President: Assists the President(s) and leads in their absence

  • Secretary: Records meetings and manages documentation

  • Treasurer: Handles finances and fundraising activities

  • Parliamentarian: Ensures proper meeting procedures and rule adherence

  • Prizes and Awards - Earn trophies and certificates across multiple competition categories

  • Six Competition Types - Essay, Debate, Bowl, Parliamentary Procedure, Policy Pitch, and Club-Wide events

  • Real-World Skills - Develop critical thinking, research, public speaking, and leadership abilities
